I found this letter online, and while cannot confirm it's authenticity, believe it to be genuine. It is worthy for a number of reasons. First, it raises a number of points which are true, which are also not widely known, and also happen to be frightening.

All these flu scares are not accidental. Both the degreeto which they are "pushed" in the "free" press, to the draconian measures a heartbeat away. Take "Tamiflu" or go to prison indefinitely, that's the bottom line.

Subject: Criminal Charges to be filed against Dr M Chan and WHO for mass murder

Dear Dr Margaret Chan,

I am sending this email to inform you that I intend to file criminal charges on Monday Aril 27th against you as well as other employees in the WHO and allied organisations, for your role in exposing the populations of the world to the risk of a pandemic virus that could kill billions of people using laws to fight international racketeering influenced organised crime as well as the UN convention for the prevention and punishment of genocide.

As a public servant employed in an international organisation, the Director-General of the World Health Organisation based in Geneva, you have the duty as part of your official capacity to act at all times in such a way as to safeguard the health of the world's population, specifically to prevent the "misuse" of pandemic declaration by organisations, companies, government bodies or other entities intent on unleashing a pandemic virus and then carrying through a mass vaccination programme with contaminated material in order to gain political and economic advantages from mass murder.

Media reports indicate that your organisation is abusing its administrative structures, personnel and services to play up the danger of the swine flu virus to justify just such a mass vaccination programme with an untried and untested vaccine.

The WHO has ordered all WHO officers to man the "Pandemic Control Room" 24/7 for the 1st time in response to the swine flu cases reported in the media yesterday, and is about to declare a "pandemic".

The WHO "Pandemic Control Room" is designed to map and track the spread of a pandemic virus, and is thus equipped with super-computers tied to all U.N. member government's security forces.

This "control room" is where any declarations of "pandemic" will originate from, and I would be grateful if you could list the names of the people working in that control room.

When WHO sends such a "declaration" to President Obama, FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security "Pandemic Task Forces" will be deployed according to my information.

Each State Governor will be notified that the provisions of the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act (MSEHPA) will be implemented. This means that all Americans must consent to mass vaccinations, or be guilty of a FELONY crime.

Would it not, Dr Chan, be better just to ask people who refuse to wear a surgical mask if there is, indeed, a real danger of a pandemic? Why force through a vaccination on pain of being shot?

You must be aware of this facts.

This is such a drastic scenario that you in your capacity as a public servant must have real evidence of a dire threat to the population and be prove beyond a doubt that your actions will address that threat and that there is a good reason why you don't simply recommend people were surgical masks if they don't want to take the vaccination.


From media reports, it seems that the new strain of swine flu is a synthetic structural recombinant, it contains genes from birds, humans, and pigs from many different continents. It therefore is reasonable to assume it came out of a laboratory, specifically a bioweapons laboratory.

Wouldn't the WHO be better advised to investigate the lab that manufactured and released this synthetic virus and prosecute them or else recommend people wear surgical masks rather than declare a mass vaccination programme?

According to a report in Fox News below, your assessment of the dangers of this swine flu is by far the most pessimistic with the CDC recommending just customary precautions. How do you explain that?

How do explain why you have identified so many fatalities already while the Mexican government has confirmed only 16 from this new flu strain? What is the scientific basis for your identification? Are you using a correct procedure? Can you prove it in court that you are using the correct procedure and that simply recommending people wear surgical masks is not adequate.

Also, I note that the new strain of the swine flu has appeared in Mexico and America simultaneously, and under "mysterious circumstances" also indicating a deliberate, planned and coordinated release of the synthetic laboratory engineered viruses. Shouldn't you be investigating such a "mysterious" incident? Have you declared an investigation? Who are you investigating? Please give details?

WHO is obliged to exhaust all other avenues before declaring a pandemic and initiating a mass vaccination programme because you must -- as part of your duties to be informed as the holder of such an office -- know that the 1976 swine flu mass vaccination programme was abandoned by the US government because of the mounting evidence that the risk to the general public was greater from the vaccination programme than from the actual swine flu.

It is your especial duty, given this precedent in 1976, to make sure no mass vaccination programme is implemented unless that causes injury to the general public is implemented under your auspices by your declaring a pandemic prematurely and without having adequate safeguards in place to ensure the high quality and safety of any vaccine material.

You also need to show that recommending surgical masks is not a viable alternative approach in dealing with any so-called pandemic.

I contend that you are not fulfilling your duty to a) provide accurate information to the public about the threats posed to them by the swine flu and b) to ensure you do not declare a pandemic prematurely as a pretext to rush through a contaminated or faulty vaccine material that could result in death or injury to people as happened in 1976.

As a public servant whose body is currently investigation the involvement of Baxter and Avir in the release of bird flu pandemic material in Austria, you are obliged to be fully aware also of the details of this case and the role that a pharmaceutical company, namely Baxter, played in almost triggering a pandemic.

You might also be aware of the criminal charges I filed against Baxter and other bodies, including the WHO, in respect of this case on April 8th with the Vienna City Prosecutor since they are available on a blog.

The WHO reference center provided Baxter with the particularly lethal wild type bird flu virus that ended up contaminating ordinary human flu material and being distributed to 16 laboratories in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany under a false label, and so nearly sparking a bird flu pandemic this winter in the estimation of experts and the media.

In the Baxter case of this winter, there is therefore a clear, well documented link between WHO and the release of pandemic bird flu material in Europe this winter.

The WHO is, according to reports, conducting an investigation into Baxter and Avir's role in producing and distributing this material, but has so far not made public the results of its investigation or made recommendations in respect of stricter biosecurity rules for laboratories working with the highly pathogenic bird flu virus. Why not?

I contend your failure to conduct a full and detailed investigation into this incident, and to make those findings public or to make clear recommendations as to how to prevent a repeat of this incident is not merely a failure to perform your duty as a public servant but evidence of your role in covering up the real origin of the pandemic virus, specifically, in WHO's own reference center.

In my criminal charges filed with the Vienna City Prosecutor on April 8th, 2009, I alleged that Baxter deliberately tried to trigger a pandemic with the aim of profiting from it by sealing in advance lucrative contracts to supply a vaccination for the bird flu with the Austrian Health Ministry in 2006, specifically the contract sealed with Austrian Health Minister Maria Rauch-Kallat involved supplying 16 million vaccine shots in the event that WHO declared a bird flu pandemic.

In Germany, a vaccination bird flu shot is mandatory ensuring more profits for pharmaceutical companies, and adding to the motivation for companies to trigger a pandemic because they will profit from it, and to take steps to exercise undue influence on members of WHO to declare a pandemic without adequate reason.

Referring to laws on racketeering influenced crime organisations, I argued that high offices in organisations such as the WHO have been annexed by criminal elements who are actually helping to further a criminal agenda of committing murder with the motive of robbery - albeit using covert bioweapons programmes.

As a result of the actions of Baxter, at least 35 people in Austria and in the Czech Republic were given preventative treatment against bird flu and the ordinary human flu in hospital. This underlines that in the professional opinion of the medical personnel there was a real, concrete and specific danger from Baxter and WHO's contaminated material to the health of those individuals, such that administering medicines was considered necessary. I understand the Czech laboratory staff who came into contact with Baxter's contaminated and who first reported it on February 6th material were placed in quarantine.

Given the fact that this incident happened only a few weeks ago and your organisation is involved in it in as far as it supplied a) a lethal strain of the bird flu virus and b) is investigating the incident, it is your duty to be aware of all details, allegations of criminal intent, evidence for those allegations and refutations of those allegations because there are so many parallels with this new "swine flu" case, also involving a synthetic structure that has mysteriously appeared in two places simultaneously.

In particular, you are obliged to be informed about the fact that Baxter uses biosafety level 3 regulations when handling the highly pathogenic bird flu virus that WHO sent the company from its reference center, and that under these biosafety 3 regulations an accidental contamination of the deadly bird flu virus strain you sent you're your reference center to Baxter with a human flu is virtually impossible.

You must also be aware of the research of Jeffery K. Taubenberger of the Department of Molecular Pathology, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology into the bird flu virus and specifically his reconstruction of the deadly strain of the bird flu virus from the genetic material retrieved from victims of the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918-1919.

Although many researchers and NGOs issued warnings that resurrecting this lethal virus was dangerous to the public, the WHO has been one of the biggest supporters of continuing research into this bioengineered virus and into its "antidotes" spending millions of tax payers dollars on research and prevention programmes.

You must be aware that it was only last summer that scientists published in scientific journals evidence that showed that the bird flu can mix with the human flu virus to produce a pandemic virus in a laboratory situation.

You must also be aware of the ongoing criminal investigation in Poland into the deaths of homeless people after they were given a bird flu trial vaccination by doctors and nurses last summer.

There is therefore, I argue, ample evidence within the public domain to show that pharmaceutical companies and government organisations and other agents are knowingly and intentionally creating pandemic virus material and, as we saw in Austria, this winter unleashing it on the population, and trying to cover up their involvement.

Should you and WHO now declare a pandemic for the swine flu in the USA, and should people die as a direct result of the vaccination programme you initiate, or should there be significant evidence of harm or injury to people as a direct result of the mass vaccination programme you initiate, as happened in 1976, you could find yourself charged not with a conspiracy to mass murder but with mass murder itself.

Furthermore, the WHO, as far as I am informed, has published a study outlining the economic impact of a pandemic virus.

If you as part of your office help criminal organisations who have annexed high offices of state to carry out their crimes, to ignite and then declare a pandemic, that disrupts the economy, then you, other leading individuals working for WHO in an official capacity and WHO, as an organisation, could also liable not only for criminal charges but also for damages flowing from class action lawsuits filed not just by citizens of American but by citizens or company around the world that see their revenues decline as a direct result of the pandemic being unleashed, and the subsequent havoc to the economy.

If there is a pandemic declaration by WHO and mass deaths from the vaccination programme, I foresee a situation were you and the WHO could find thousands of people are filing criminal charges but also class action law suits.

I contend there is evidence from the pattern of your activities concerning the Baxter case that you, under the color of your office while purporting to act in an official capacity, are actually acting on behalf of hidden crime interests intent on igniting a pandemic and misusing a declaration of a pandemic to gain political and financial advantages, a group which I designate as the Illuminati crime gang.

The declaration of a pandemic by WHO has direct political and financial and other advantages to elements in the US government, especially elements I argue belong to the Illuminati/New World Order/CIA/Freemason crime gang, who are now being considered for investigation for sanctioning torture in Guantanamo in violation of the US and international law, specifically Donald Rumsfeld (who has financial connections with an anti bird flu Tamiflu producer), Richard Cheney and Alberto Gonzales.

The imposition of martial law will help anyone suspected of violating laws to torture to avoid prosecution in the United States, although a case is pending in Spain.

I contend that you are abusing your office as Director General of WHO, knowingly and intentionally, to help the Illuminati achieve their political and financial goals.

I contend there is already today, Saturday, evidence that you are intentionally manipulating information on the swine flu outbreak that allegedly started yesterday to play up the danger of a pandemic in order to justify the implementation of a mass vaccination programme while ignoring and suppressing information that indicates this response is not proportionate to the risk.

Finally, I ask you to please provide me by Monday 10am April 27th Central European Time in the form of email attachments, links, legal memos etc the following documentation so that I can review it before submitting fresh criminal charges related to this matter.

Specifically, I ask you to send me or to instruct one of your personnel to send me

1) The studies you have to date on the swine flu vaccination you intend to inoculate the US population with, with clear evidence from respected scientific sources such as clinical trials reported in peer reviewed scientific journals as to their unequivocal safety:


2) Information as to the genetic sequence of the swine flu strain detected by WHO in victims of the "swine flu" outbreak in Mexico and America so far;


3) Information as to which companies WHO has contracted to provide a swine flu vaccination and under what terms and conditions, including quality assurance, financial terms and conditions;


4) A detailed account of all the safety procedures and independent reviews that WHO has put into place for ensuring any vaccination meets recognised standards of safety and quality;


5) Documents proving that you have the legal authority in the case of a swine flu to declare a pandemic and enforce mass vaccinations for the swine flu on the population in the form of legal memos, rulings etc.

Please send all the above documents as email attachments.

If you miss the Monday deadline, I will argue in my submission to the court that you do not have the documents.

I ask you to make sure you keep a copy of the email to me so that you can prove to a court that you a) had all the requisite authority and documents and b) that you had them at hand and available for public and legal scrutiny at short notice in an emergency situation as is your obligation as a public servant.

I will argue that if you have ordered your WHO officers to man the pandemic control room 24/7 from Friday April 24, as reported in the media, then you have an extra obligation to be on duty yourself this weekend and your failure to be on duty in the event of an emergency you have declared is a violation of the rules of conduct of your office.

As you have sufficient personnel at hand, I will argue, you can delegate this job of collecting the documents and materials I request in 1)-5) to a member of your staff and still be available to follow the "pandemic" which you claim is occurring.

If you send me these documents after the Monday deadline, please make sure to keep a copy of the email so that you can prove in a court of law that you had the necessary authority, and documents proving you had that authority at hand, and could present them speedily as is required of a public servant in such an "emergency".

In case you wish to study the criminal charges I have filed on April 8th and wish to be able to better comprehend the legal basis for the criminal charges that I will file on Monday April the 27th, I attach a copy in German.

I have 1/4 boer blood, the rest as english as the queen, but to be fair, i am a South African, born and bred. I have stayed on farms in the Karoo, and Drakensburg, and elsewhere, where the traditions remain the same as a century or two ago, and the honest simplicity is always slightly surprising.

And there is religion. Christianity. It IS in me, i am the son of preachers.

The ANC has distanced itself from what it said was a "deeply embarrassing" attack by the ANC Youth League on DA leader Helen Zille. As the war of words over her description of President Jacob Zuma as an "Aids risk" escalated, the MK Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA) threatened to make the Western Cape, where Zille is premier, ungovernable.

Zille had not responded to the Youth League's slur, except to say that her reference to Zuma was based on "the facts".

Temperatures rose further yesterday with the MKMVA launching a vituperative attack. Chairman Kebbey Maphatsoe said during a Luthuli House briefing that the real reasons for Zille appointing an all-male cabinet was so that its members were "kept close enough to satisfy her well-evolved wild whore libido".

"They are also kept in her power corridors isolated from other women, so as to satisfy her and her alone; hence the exclusion of other women as they pose undesired sexual competition to her undying lust for sex with her male groupies.

"She is a fascist of the worst kind, who, after evidently sleeping with more than her fair share of white males in her preferred lifestyle of serial monogamy, now turns around and demonises those who are honest to their cultural preferences," said Maphatsoe. He said that if Zille did not "refrain from this anti-African and racist behaviour", the MKMVA would not hesitate to launch a political programme aimed at rendering the Western Cape ungovernable.

SACP general secretary and Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande questioned Zille's sanity and described the province she now governed as a "bantustan of a special order".

"I'm worried if Helen Zille is still together upstairs," Nzimande told a National Union of Metalworkers of SA meeting.

At issue is Zille's response to ANC attacks on the composition of her mostly white, all-male provincial cabinet. She pointed out that the ANC itself had never been led by a woman, while its alliance partners, Cosatu and the SACP, were also led by men. She added that Zuma was a "self-confessed womaniser with deeply sexist views who had put all his wives at risk by having unprotected sex with an HIV-positive woman".

This prompted a furious response from the ANCYL, with its spokesperson Floyd Shivambu retorting: "Zille has appointed an all-male cabinet of useless people, the majority of whom are her boyfriends and concubines, so that she can continue to sleep around with them, yet she claims to have the moral authority to question our president".

It is this statement the ANC has condemned, with its secretary-general Gwede Mantashe saying the league's comments reflected "a marked departure from the ANC's approach to political engagement".

However, Shivambu stuck to his guns yesterday, seemingly undeterred by the ANC's condemnation of his statement or the possible threat of legal action by Zille. He said the league would not be seeking an audience with Mantashe in a bid to seek common ground over Zille.

"We are not changing anything. We are sticking by our statement," said Shivambu, who yesterday had to deal with more than 50 abusive, often racist calls and text messages after the Afrikaans daily Die Burger gave his cellphone number.

But ANC spokesperson Lindiwe Zulu said yesterday: "There has to be a meeting." She said she was "100 percent sure" that Zuma had had a hand in the ANC's statement.

Zille yesterday even received a reprimand of sorts from within her own party, with the DA's youth wing urging her to focus on the job at hand rather than continue trading insults.

DA Youth spokesperson Khume Ramulifho said it was time for an end to the rhetoric in order to focus on delivery.

"When the DA federal council meets at the end of the month we are going to call on the DA leadership to focus on the main goals, because all these rhetorical statements being made are just to distract us."

The youth wing said it supported Zille's cabinet appointments, saying women's representivity would not solve service delivery problems.

The SA Human Rights Commission expressed concern over the tone of the attacks.

This is shamelessly stolen from the Think Bike forum. Thank you to Tosh, someone who i've ridden with before, who has popped his head up :D

Think Bike has said and done a lot to dispel the "club" image. In this they have failed miserably. The politics involved with ANY groups of people, is usually too much to control, and somehow the worst in people always comes out.

I'm NOT a club person, for many of the usual reasons, and frankly the clubbishness that is starting to manifest is alienating me somewhat.

It is the difference between individuality and ego. (IMHO)

Like arseholes we all have opinions, and I would like to voice mine.

Let me start by saying I am a new member to Think Bike and this has nothing to do with the campaign or its internal structures.

I read an article on the forum which has made me dig out the old typewriter and Tipex. (For those young ‘uns – a typewriter - noun an electric, electronic, or manual machine with keys for producing print-like characters and Tipex – is a manual deleting fluid)

The article was headed: - ‘I need some advise.’

Without being a horse’s arse, I presumed what the writer was asking for was some advice as to how her bike clubs policies may or may not be the same as other clubs etc.

I do not wish to dwell on the detail of the post but rather the very humorous answers which were regurgitated by some of the non-club affiliated members.

The difference between an association/ affiliation and a club is in its definition a world apart***??

Association - a group of people organized for a joint purpose
Affiliation - officially attach or connected to an organization
Club - an association dedicated to a particular interest or activity

I am no genius and do not have a great command of the English language, however I am prepared to go out on a limb and admit that I am confused as to the literal specifications as to the differences between the three words.

They are all very similar; however, if I admit to being associated or affiliated to a biking community, I do not hear the careless whispers being muttered under those laboured breaths. Should I, however, be so irresponsible as to admit I am a member of a bike club the mutters and the whispers start? Why?

The public in general are naïve due to a lack of knowledge, as well as having a healthy fear of the unknown. I say healthy as I don’t necessarily want them to know that we eat, sleep, shit, work, breed, love and die. Best we keep these secrets to ourselves and take them to the grave.

Those that know me know that when I ride, I ride with pride; I wear my name on my chest, heart on my sleeve and my colours on my back as do many other proud club members. I have flaws and have a history, some good some, well, not so good… I read somewhere ‘he who has no sin, throw the first stone’.

I would like to give some insight into the brotherhood of a club. (I speak of only my experiences and not hearsay).

Our creed is simple – Respect, dedication, brotherhood

We are like minded motorcyclists, who come together as brothers and sisters with a very high level of commitment to our club, in pursuit of having fun while doing something we enjoy, keeping in mind our greater goal of supporting each other as well as some worthwhile causes.

We set an example of what we believe in; Respect, dedication and brotherhood. Living life, free spirited without being abusive to ourselves or others while at the same time not forgetting our responsibilities to family and club. (The woman riders may be interested to know that they are very welcome into our brotherhood, I use the term brotherhood for the ease of writing this, I am not being gender specific.)

On an open forum like TB there is no accountability or responsibility as to what people post….easy isn’t it. Imagine if life were like that.

You could post on your company’s internal mail system exactly what you think of your boss, staff or your colleagues etc. I think not.

Too risky, scared to **** off the boss, or is it your respect for him, or his position that stops you. Maybe it’s your responsibility to your family and you may think that you have much to lose, maybe.

In a bike club you are not dealing with an Avatar, nickname or a status ranking. You are not able to lambaste a person in Cape Town while sitting in your air-conditioned office in Johannesburg. You need to address the horses arse himself – face to face.

In a club you are held accountable and responsible for your actions, and through this process respect is earned. Sometimes holding ones tongue may lead to the most incredible feeling – respect. With respect, any issue can be addressed, no matter how difficult to swallow. What’s more by having mutual respect you always walk away a man. (It makes me think of some great words written by Rudyard Kipling – If- I will attach it, for my indulgence.)

Politics happen in every environment, especially in a biking community. Most bikers are strong willed, assertive and have an inner belief. Not a good combination if you are looking for weak sheep to follow the ramblings of a dictator.

We elect our leaders, committees and members by a democratic vote, the office holders share the work load of running the club to make it run smoothly and to help achieve the goals, objectives and discipline within the club.

Bike clubs are not for everybody. It takes dedication, effort, self sacrifice and respect. These are hard values to share with people outside your immediate family, and often even within your own family.

I have had the privilege to have loved, lost, buried and lived inside a community of the most incredible people who have helped mould me into the man I am today.

When people who share the same values, share time with each other, an internal and serious life bond is formed. If you add to that a love of freedom, independence, biking and a little dose of individualism it is easy to understand why people like this choose to ride together, and show solidarity by riding under one flag/colour.

Why follow the pack when we are all individuals. Climb on your bike take a few mates with you and go find yourself.

The last time Muhammet A. saw his wife outside a courtroom, she hit him. They'd been married for 20 years and had five children together, but now she stood in the doorway of his new apartment in Berlin's Neukölln district, screaming and pounding her fists against his chest.

He had hardly seen her since she left him abruptly in the spring of 2005. Now she was yelling at him in Turkish and demanding the children back. But Muhammet had already decided that she wouldn't get the children. So, now, there was only one important thing to do -- stay calm. "If you stay calm," Kazim Erdogan, a 55-year-old psychologist, had told him in a fathers' group, "then you can have everything, absolutely everything."

So Muhammet held his fingers firmly laced behind his back -- another trick Erdogan had taught him -- so that his hands wouldn't accidentally slip out of his control. If they did, the Office of Youth and Family Services would certainly take his children away, even if he lashed out only once and in self-defense. The world can be so unfair -- and the others in the fathers' group agree.

Read the whole article, it's very illuminating. Why are there not more of these? In our society, although it must be even harder when an immigrant, in an alien social environment. One of the things i feelvery strongly about, is that today's men are not men, merely overgrown little boys.

Now before all the woman cheer, i am being serious, and it is a problem. Woman enter womanhood early, with the onset of natural physical symptoms, which make them aware of themselves, and their coming adulthood. Men have no such thing. Moreso, they don't even think, or speak of manhood. It's accepted. You're a MAN from early, if you behave in certain ways. Yet the numbers of "boy-men" i encounter is quite alarming. These are men in their 20's, who still behave, feel and act, as teens.

One of the greatest losses our society suffers from, is the loss of manhood rites. For my part, i have been able to identify certain scenarios in my life which achieved that end, and eventually i was able to understand, i am a man. The truth is though, i'm a terribly inward sort of person, given to pondering these things. Most don't. Most accept almost anything that comes their way, with a sense of entitlement, without understanding the responsibilities OF THAT entitlement.

And frankly, there are no "wise men" around, to have that quiet word in the man's ear when he has erred. The best he can hope for are his buddies, as much deluded and blind as himself. Something as simple as this, where the man humbly recognises that despite everything, he needs help, and is also willing to help his friends.

This is not about competition, we've all lost the race already. This is about comeraderie, about making it yourself, and helping others along the way.

Kazim Erdogan, a 55-year-old psychologist, is a man among men. He not only understands the problems, but is willing and able to give a small amount of good advice, to the unsung leaders in our midst.

This news article is wrong, misleading ... the sun is at it's quiet in living history. It was DUE to start cycle 24 last year already, and NASA has been wiping egg off it's face since then. They said: ... then they said: ... and then theysaid again. Each time udating their forecasts to reflect the total failure of their previous forecasts.

While it's a fair article in terms of Sunstorms 101, and how they may affect us, it's typical that its so broadly put, just numbers and facts, all unrelated and frankly has nothing to do with the current solar minimum.

I quote: "A preliminary forecast issued in 2007 was split over the outlook for the upcoming cycle, Biesecker said the researchers have now reached consensus."
No, that preliminary forecast was updated SEVERAL times, and no, the only consensus that those monkeys have reached is that they know less than fuckall about their chosen subject.

SAA captain breaks 70-year flight record

"I'm absolutely blown away," said SAA captain Charles "Chalkie" Stobbart, 60, after walking out of the one-engined, home- built airplane he flew to beat a 70-year-old aviation record by 18 hours and 59 minutes.

Stobbart flew the return trip from Cape Town to London in three days, 15 hours and 17 minutes, bringing the world record back to South Africa.

The previous record was set in 1939 by Alex Henshaw, who flew the return trip from London to Cape Town in four days, 10 hours and 16 minutes in a single-engined aircraft.

"I'm elated, and of course my head is still shaky from all the bouncing in the airplane," Stobbart said. "There were hours and hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror," he said, citing dust storms in the Sahara and freezing rain.

The trip had been well-prepared, well-planned and well-executed, but Stobbart experienced some technical difficulties, he said. He accidentally sat on his satellite phone, which broke, and his stormscope, which shows weather patterns on the route, was not functioning either.

"The full moon shining was my only guide through the thunderstorm between Kano and Brazzaville after sunset to see the developments in the clouds," he said.

Stobbart made three fuelling stops in Africa on both legs of the trip. He arrived in London, slept for 12 hours and left early on Sunday morning for the south-bound trip.

"I'd hoped to knock a day off the record, but with the bureaucracy in Africa, every stop I planned for a one-hour rest became two hours," he said.

His first delay was in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, because the airport was closed while the president was flying to Jacob Zuma's inauguration.

Stobbart's wife Maureen said she was overwhelmed by the fantastic response and support the family has received.

"We've all been glued to watching his flight on the computer," she said, adding that she has slept for about eight hours since he took off on Thursday. When she talked to him during the trip, he said he was exhausted, had a "numb bum", and was also deaf in one ear because of the non-stop noise on the aircraft.

"It's been a stressful three- and-a-half days, and the team has battled with communications because they could only talk to him while he was on the ground while the plane was refuelling," said challenge co-ordinator Dolph Kruger.

Nuclear weapons

So the US and Isreal have made A LOT of noise about Iran aquiring any nuclear technology. Yet time and again ALL inspectors, form the UN to the US's own investigations have confirmed that Iran does not have weapons grade plutonium or uranium. Also, Iran is not close to getting it, and cannot in fact produce anything remotely close to weapons grade material for several years.

There is no threat from Iran.

However, closer to home (for the US) is Egyp, a country who is firmly pro america, anti freedoms and fairly close to an islamist state.

So what a urprise when highly enriched uranium (HEU) -- at or near weapons grade level has been traced there.

So this weekend i was in soweto, part of GO-GP.ORG's efforts to create awareness for the upcoming world superbike championship at Kyalami mid-May.

And after arriving early,and walking around the parking, just looking, a van pulls into the lot with 2 Ducatis on the trailer. Now Ducati's are pretty, but like all super vehicles, i lose interest when they are too glamorous.

However from across a parking lot, on a trailer, next to much more modern, sleek bikes, my attention was totally taken by this baby. Love is the only word. The classic cafe racer look, with modern technology, it is a masterpiece of design.

It screams "ride me!" and carresses your senses until in a haze, you can only submit and climb on board, the handlebars and dash so beautiful in simple brushed metal, white clocks, and elegant chrome trim.

Riding forever

I was riding home from work yesterday afternoon, on the highway just coasting along. The bike was purring in a harmonious way exactly as it should. My fazer is a very smooth and quiet ride, something i appreciate more than other things, like speed.

The traffic had cleared somewhat, and i had my on piece of road. They're doing construction on that stretch, so the road surface alternates between the old concrete, and newer tar, with a large amount of dust and rubble, as heavy concrete blocks running along the side off the highway. I'm assuming that they are only temporary, since they are too close into the road, and the traffic is much tighter than is comfortable.

Anyway i'm riding along, and the wind and speed and tyre noise and bike's vibration sort of fuse together into a hum. A background noise getting further and further away ... seemed to resonate somehow, and echoes floated back. It wasn't just spacial, although the heavy concrete surrounds helped with that, but forwards and backwards too. I was being pulled along as in a strong river, except not water, but sounds, vibration, a hum. Like a river of hum. <-- nice song title ;-)

It startled me, gave me an eery sense of precognition. Having considered, i'm tempted to compare the sensation with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's doppelganger ... except i met me going the same way.

Parajet Skycar

Ever since chitty-chitty-bang-bang took to the skies, people have been wanting a flying car. This is it.

The skycar. With an off road buggy, and a parachute, this really does seem like a viable possibility. It goes almost anywhere on land, and then can even take off and fly, literally. It's safer than a conventional plane, and easier to manoevre, with a back up emergency parachute if all else fails.

The only thing left is to fit a diesel engine, and this would be the ultimate long lasting go anywhere machine. I want. :D

Something strange in the air today. A weather system moved in, bringing cooler air and cloudy skies, but i like that.

I don't like the energy. After having a seriously disturbing ride to work, i discovered that several bikers had listened ot their inner voices, and use the car today. Even i was thinking, bikers going DOWN today :(

Elections tomorrow, frenzy, chaos, madness. This election thing is EVIL, downright hellish in EVERY aspect.

Consensus climate science

I have to give this credit entirely to Anthony Watts of Watt's Up With That, and his guest writer Paul McRae.

Go read it. Not only a brilliant resurrection of a past scientist and philosopher Thomas Huxley, but a refutation of the mis-science that is global warming.

See image 1, an overlay of both CO2 and temperatures over the last few million years, and compare with image 2, the origional global warming scenario, which gained notoriety in 2001, from James Hansen, a climatologist.

Perhaps i should remind you of the first impact of global warming, which would be taxes. Carbon taxes. Carbon footprint. Carbon output. You breathe out carbon dioxide. You will be taxed on breathing out. I find that spine chilling.

I DID believe the global warming thing, it's reasonable to assume that we would get some comeback from mother earth. But again politics has subverted, abused, misled, etc. There is much that could be said for Mr Gore and his ilk of jetsetting friends, and their personal culpibility for much of the world's misery. Their snake oil charms work so well, for a while.

That's what's nice about science, it levels the playing fields between generations quite nicely.

April 14, 2009 "Information Clearing House" -- -A recent article published in the respected peer-reviewed Open Chemical Physics Journal by nine noted scientists offers incontrovertible proof that the dust from the Twin Towers and Building Seven of the World Trade Center contains small intact samples of Thermite.

Thermite is a highly explosive agent consisting mostly of aluminum and iron oxide, and is used to cut steel in building controlled demolitions, and is also used in welding and in military applications.

Using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry, the scientists were able to determine that the Thermite present is of a specialized type called Nano-thermite or Superthermite. It burns hotter and has a lower ignition temperature than normal Thermite, and is produced at laboratories such as Lawrence Livermore, incidentally thought to be the same lab that produced the anthrax sent out shortly after 9/11.

Nano-thermite could not be accidentally present in dust samples collected at four different sites, nor could it be the result of clean-up operations at ground zero, as one of the samples was retrieved a mere ten minutes or so after the collapse of the second tower. All samples show the same consistency.

Moving swiftly along, it seems one of the judges wasn't entirely comfortable either, not with the blog, but, with blogging standards in South Africa. Very limited scope it seems.

I’m not disagreeing with this blog winning the SA Blog of the Year; I actually think it’s well deserved: it’s popular, well-supported and hugely appreciated by its woolly-headed fans. Just like Jacob Zuma is.

But, I have to say that I agree that it’s an indictment on South African blogging when the best blog - the very best - we can present to the world is one that recycles all the usual Internet flotsam and jetsam, and presents it as if it’s something new and original.

Now THAT is very well said. Blogs are unique and individual, as such i can't really say this is right, or that is wrong, but it should be creative, and HOPEFULLY different. The Fastnet Rock is about as rugged as they come. Its Irish name, An Charraig Aonair, means “The Rock that Stands Alone”. Its name in Old Norse, Hvastann-ey, stood for “Sharp-Toothed Island”. The rough waters round about claimed numerous lives and were sung about in 17th-century laments. But it was considered mysterious as well as dangerous. Legend had it that on the summer equinox, it would set sail and visit its neighbours; Bull, Cow, Calf and Heifer Rocks. For centuries it was part of the rich fishing grounds of West Cork’s O’Driscoll clan, and the locals would not have been averse to the odd shipwreck giving them an opportunity for plunder. “Please God, send us a ship,” was long a private prayer along the coast, according to one of Fastnet’s keepers brought up near Crookhaven, the nearest port.

Douglass’s method of building was one invented by his father, Nicholas, on another lighthouse in the 1860s (and used long afterwards in British lighthouses). Concrete blocks were dovetailed into those around it, and cemented into those above and below, like a Chinese puzzle, so that it was impossible to remove any one stone without removing those above it. “This system of dovetail joggles absolutely bonds the entire structure into a virtual monolith,” wrote Scott. The contract to supply the granite was won by Messrs John Freeman and Sons of Penrhyn, Cornwall. In 1897 its workers started chiselling away at 2,074 stones, each weighing from 1.7 to 3 tons to create the puzzle.

Fastnet was peculiar, he says, as he points to a picture of the lighthouse on his sitting-room wall. It may look like Alcatraz on the outside, but inside time never drags. Perhaps that is because of the weight of green and white water that surrounds one; it never stops churning. In stormy winter weather, the “big seas would come sailing up over the entire building like the field of horses in the Grand National,” as one former Fastnet keeper put it. Sometimes, there were almost disastrous consequences; Mr O’Driscoll remembers a storm in 1985 when a wave reached as high as the light and came crashing through the glass, overturning the vat of mercury and sending the poisonous liquid pouring down the stairs. He doubts the tower would have withstood another wallop as great as that, but it never came. Suddenly, there was a great calmness. There were moments of deep sadness, too. Missing children’s birthdays, for example, because the weather turned and the ship could not get close enough to the rock to take him ashore. Earth hour

SO i had a busy sturday, lots of marshalling, great fun but hard riding, and it was hot. By the time i got home i was finished, went to lie down a bit.

Woke up at 20h30 sharp. I was muggy headed, and wifeys guests were leaving and so on, truth be told i never realised i had forgotten anything.

I wasn't going to "celebrate" anyway ... strikes me as another of those mass distraction exercises our leaders seem to enjoy so much. My take is if you want to make a change, ground all pvt jets, and switch off the US military. Simple. Share a ride to work, get a bike, switch off lights, walk to the shops ... damn so many BETTER ways to make a contribution.

To stumble around in the dark for an hour means fuckall, less than. Crikey we been doing that and calling it load shedding. Except that COSTS money. go figure.

I guess awareness plays a part, but a lie to justify another lie is silly.

Anyways, the point of this post was at 20h30, some kind of energy woke me up very sharply, literally like someone switched the lights on. I wonder how much damage was done by this event to the power grids.

Makes me think, one day all along the local main road several groups had election posters put up on the streetlamp poles. The next day, all were removed except for those containing that fucking wankers face.

I mean, if i were a judge, that would be evidence that the other posters had been removed by the only group who's hadn't. Logic.

Priests asked to chase away 'evil spirits'

Classes at Suleman Patel Secondary School, in Inanda, had to be suspended again on Tuesday after pupils became hysterical.

The mass hysteria, which affected more than 20 pupils and a teacher, began last Friday.

School principal, Nonhlanhla Zulu, said the pupils, who seemed to be possessed by evil spirits, were screaming hysterically and behaved aggressively towards anyone who tried to subdue them. She has asked local priests to hold a prayer meeting at the school on Thursday.
'They were screaming, jumping up and down and crying'

Department of Education spokesperson Ntokozo Maphisa said district officials would be deployed to the school to assess the situation, and they would advise the teachers on a way forward. He said: "Writing of exams will continue and we will ensure the pupils don't miss out on any of the work."

On Monday, a teacher and several pupils had to be admitted to hospital after they became violent, injuring themselves and anyone who dared to go near them.

Police spokesperson Captain Jabulani Zwane said when they arrived at the school, the pupils were wild and uncontrollable.

A parent said she suspected that one of the pupils in the school was a devil worshipper, saying she feared the pupil's peculiar behaviour might affect more pupils.

"It starts with just one person and in no time the other students will be doing the same thing," she said.

Zulu said pupils were about to write their first-term exams when they became hysterical.

"They were screaming, jumping up and down and crying. Some pupils were punching themselves in the stomach, complaining of strange movements in their bellies," she said.

Mbali Myeza, 18, a Grade 11 pupil who was also affected by the hysteria, said she was still terrified of going back to the classroom. She said she was about to write her economics paper when she suddenly became weak and dehydrated.

"I felt hot and I couldn't feel my arms and legs. I felt like I was standing alone in a dark tunnel and there was this huge snake which was heading towards me," she recalled.

She said when she finally regained consciousness, she could not remember what had happened. "It was like I had had a long dream, but I couldn't remember what I had dreamed about," she said.

Zulu said this was not the first time the school had been plagued by the bizarre behaviour. "There were two matric boys who had the same problem last year, but after they left we thought everything would be back to normal," she said.

Zulu said after the incident, they called in priests to pray for the pupils. She said she hoped classes would resume tomorrow after a mass prayer meeting.

"We urge all the local pastors to come to our school on Thursday where we will be praying for the pupils, teachers, school and the community," she said.

Earlier this month, 90 Windsor Secondary School pupils in Ladysmith were taken to hospital, after suffering from dizzy spells and fits.

Mass Hysteria

People in groups often experience strange effects of the group. In the 60's there was much research into the mass mind, zener cards and such. That mostly fizzled, 50/50 success means little to science.

And then you get THIS.

Everything else aside, this story alone shatters the conventional scientific world view. This cannot be made up by all these kids, all "planning" to pretend to faint at the same time. Aside from the fear they must feel, there is a definite unexplained element here.

The report hinted that a "group experienced in these things" was being brought in, echos of twilight zone.

Peace conference postponed

Johannesburg - Convenors of the SA Peace Conference, which was scheduled to start on Friday, have postponed it because of the controversy surrounding the attendance of the Dalai Lama.

"Given that the purpose of the conference is peace, the convenors don't want to put the Nobel Peace Prize Committee in a position where there will be conflict," Irvin Khoza, one of the committee members, told a media briefing in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

The government refused to grant the Dalai Lama a visa, saying it did not want to remove the world's attention from the 2010 Soccer World Cup preparations.

Dalai Lama drinks from SA's Cup of anxiety

Look at that heading, after SA decides to not let him into the country. South Africa has become the embarassment of the world. I stand ashamed. Although, once gain, being south african, we have Tutu, and De Klerk even, both idiots, but their intentions are good. Tutu speaks with his conscience, which is an embarrasing trait sometimes, but oh so preferable to the well groomed deception of others.

It had not been intended that Mandela would attend the conference, the Nelson Mandela Foundation said.

Shell will no longer invest in renewable technologies such as wind, solar and hydro power because they are not economic, the Anglo-Dutch oil company said today. It plans to invest more in biofuels which environmental groups blame for driving up food prices and deforestation.

Executives at its annual strategy presentation said Shell, already the world's largest buyer and blender of crop-based biofuels, would also invest an unspecified amount in developing a new generation of biofuels which do not use food-based crops and are less harmful to the environment.

Until recently, Shell's investment in wind power featured prominently in its corporate advertisements. FoE said the company's move heralded a slightly more honest approach. "Shell is at least being a bit more honest about the fact they are a fossil fuel company. It has seen the limitations of the greenwash it was putting out a few years ago."

Capitalism

I keep reading updates, about the world financial situation and meltdown, and many of the commentators point out how capitalism has failed, Marx is laughing, and we need a new system now.

I disagee. Capitalism has worked, well too. It has achieved it's long term goal of over capitalisation. 

In the beginning there was natural resource. The resource was common, and shared by all. Then came barter, and soon after, trade.

This was a rabbit's hole, where resource now became abstract.

This abstract money grew, sucking resource up faster than before, without returning any value to the resource. The system of trade which has led to this fall origionated in Babylon, the land called Iraq. It's taken 3000 years, to find all the money on the other side of the globe, and attacking it's home mercilessly. It has now sucked itself up. Money has trwisted money to the degree that money bars no relation to itself. The MONEY i get paid, is not the same as the money i buy bread with. It's value has lessened.

While most people seems to think of this as an accident, an error, this was always the goal, to control everything. It's worked. You may not agree, but you're not legally entitled to a tenth of this planet, as some are.

The politics of climate

OK, so we all know about the incconvenient truth by Al Gore. I posted recently about 36 less convenient truths that Al Gore ignores.
Now i have found the nails for the global warming coffin. I would like to state categorically that global warming is a political and not scientific phenomena, and i as a human am quite humbled that despite the amount of crap we have thrown at the planet, it still maintains it's equilibrium.
Obviously planet earth is sick, pollution is choking her, and she is certainly not pristene anymore, BUT, she maintains the equilibrium, that is MOST important.

The national education system is a "disaster," the Afrikaans teachers union SAOU told the ANC on Thursday.

It emphasised that the success rate of pupils who started in Grade One in 1995 was only 24 percent, union general secretary Chris Klopper told reporters.

"There were 1,2 million pupils who got lost along the way, we want to know what happened to them."

Klopper was speaking after meeting African national Congress secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and other senior party officials in Johannesburg.

Klopper said 1,5 million pupils started in Grade 1 in 1995 and only 360,000 completed matric in 2007.

"The same happened with the 1996 intake and matric results in 2008." The success rate for 2008 was only 22 percent, he said.

Further, this is obviouly something close to my heart, and with 3 kids, 2 in school, i'm seeing the down side all the time.

I was going to make a post entitled the "Misconception of condoms". My dughter (12) comes home the other day, and tells how she was learning about HIV and AIDS. Now for some strange reason, she picks up on this topic as IMPORTANT. Something in the way it's presented certainly stands out for her.

Already i get told: "i know about SEX" her emphasis not mine. And that condoms are for when you want to make babies.

STOP THE FUCKING BUS .... WHAT?

So, we have this 12 year old girl, who got the idea that sex is ok before marriage, that its important, and she completely misunderstands the use od condoms.

We very quickly mended the damage, but she's a smart girl, with a good broad knowledge of the subject (our bitch had puppies a while ago) and parents who take an interest in her work, and she got it wrong anyway.

Something is wrong with that entire scenario.

Exactly the same happened with voting. "Well you see, dad, that voting is about PARTIES, like, um, the ANC, and you have to go and vote for them."

She could not name a single other political party. She came home recently with a woksheet describing the bantu civilisations as having having huge cities which rivalled those of Europe. No, they didn't. That's a lie. They had many things perhaps, but comparing 18th century Africa with 18th century Vienna, well you see what i'm getting at.

I dropped out of school, because i could smell the lies and hypocrisy. Not really my finest moment, but the point is kids KNOW value, and they're not getting it.

This extraordinary painting depicting 103 figures from world history in striking detail has become the latest internet hit.

Message boards have erupted with contests to identify all those featured, who range from instantly recognisable figures like Gandhi to some more obscure figures such as Liu Xiang, the Chinese hurdler who limped out of the Beijing Olympics in the summer.

An element of mystery also surrounds that origins of the picture, which appears to have drawn inspiration from Raphael's Renaissance fresco The School of Athens.

While the figures in Raphael's painting were all ancient philosophers, there appears little to connect the characters in the recent work which finds room for historical greats like Napoleon as well as Bill Gates, the bespectacled face of modern success.

But eagle-eyed observers have spotted clues to the painting's provenance in some of those depicted.

Many of the figures in the painting – including Chinese communist leaders and poets – have little profile outside of Asia.

And the inclusion of Juan Antonio Samaranch, the career bureaucrat and former International Olympic Committee chairman would be inexplicable unless the artist came from China, where Mr Samaranch is well-known as the man who awarded Beijing the 2008 Games.

THIS week in Vienna, a meeting of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs took place that will help shape international antidrug efforts for the next 10 years. I attended the meeting to reaffirm Bolivia’s commitment to this struggle but also to call for the reversal of a mistake made 48 years ago.

In 1961, the United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs placed the coca leaf in the same category with cocaine — thus promoting the false notion that the coca leaf is a narcotic — and ordered that “coca leaf chewing must be abolished within 25 years from the coming into force of this convention.” Bolivia signed the convention in 1976, during the brutal dictatorship of Col. Hugo Banzer, and the 25-year deadline expired in 2001.

So for the past eight years, the millions of us who maintain the traditional practice of chewing coca have been, according to the convention, criminals who violate international law. This is an unacceptable and absurd state of affairs for Bolivians and other Andean peoples.

Many plants have small quantities of various chemical compounds called alkaloids. One common alkaloid is caffeine, which is found in more than 50 varieties of plants, from coffee to cacao, and even in the flowers of orange and lemon trees. Excessive use of caffeine can cause nervousness, elevated pulse, insomnia and other unwanted effects.

Another common alkaloid is nicotine, found in the tobacco plant. Its consumption can lead to addiction, high blood pressure and cancer; smoking causes one in five deaths in the United States. Some alkaloids have important medicinal qualities. Quinine, for example, the first known treatment for malaria, was discovered by the Quechua Indians of Peru in the bark of the cinchona tree.

The coca leaf also has alkaloids; the one that concerns antidrug officials is the cocaine alkaloid, which amounts to less than one-tenth of a percent of the leaf. But as the above examples show, that a plant, leaf or flower contains a minimal amount of alkaloids does not make it a narcotic. To be made into a narcotic, alkaloids must typically be extracted, concentrated and in many cases processed chemically. What is absurd about the 1961 convention is that it considers the coca leaf in its natural, unaltered state to be a narcotic. The paste or the concentrate that is extracted from the coca leaf, commonly known as cocaine, is indeed a narcotic, but the plant itself is not.

Why is Bolivia so concerned with the coca leaf? Because it is an important symbol of the history and identity of the indigenous cultures of the Andes.

The custom of chewing coca leaves has existed in the Andean region of South America since at least 3000 B.C. It helps mitigate the sensation of hunger, offers energy during long days of labor and helps counter altitude sickness. Unlike nicotine or caffeine, it causes no harm to human health nor addiction or altered state, and it is effective in the struggle against obesity, a major problem in many modern societies.

Today, millions of people chew coca in Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and northern Argentina and Chile. The coca leaf continues to have ritual, religious and cultural significance that transcends indigenous cultures and encompasses the mestizo population.

Mistakes are an unavoidable part of human history, but sometimes we have the opportunity to correct them. It is time for the international community to reverse its misguided policy toward the coca leaf.

The success of drug decriminalization in Portugal

In 2001, Portugal became the only EU-member state to decriminalize drugs, a distinction which continues through to the present. Last year, working with the Cato Institute, I went to that country in order to research the effects of the decriminalization law (which applies to all substances, including cocaine and heroin) and to interview both Portuguese and EU drug policy officials and analysts (the central EU drug policy monitoring agency is, by coincidence, based in Lisbon). Evaluating the policy strictly from an empirical perspective, decriminalization has been an unquestionable success, leading to improvements in virtually every relevant category and enabling Portugal to manage drug-related problems (and drug usage rates) far better than most Western nations that continue to treat adult drug consumption as a criminal offense.

A little 9-year-old girl in Brazil has been raped repeatedly by her stepfather ever since she was six.The girl was found last week to be four months pregnant after being taken to the hospital for stomach pains, reports The New York Times. The girl was pregnant with twins. Doctors told her distraught mother that the 80-pound child was too small to carry the twins to full-term. Labor would be dangerous and probably kill her.

EXCEPTIONS TO ABORTION LAW

Although abortion is illegal in Brazil -- the nation with the largest percentage of Catholics in the world -- there are two exceptions to this law. Abortions are allowed in cases of rape or when the mother's life is in danger. Both of these exceptions apply to this case. An emergency abortion was performed.

TOO BAD, SO SAD

Here's the shocker. The Catholic Church does not care that the girl became pregnant due to rape. Too bad. The fact that she would probably die if she gave birth to two babies? Too bad, so sad. Her mother should be willing to sacrifice her child's life.

Archbishop Jose Cardoso Sobrinho, from Brazil's coastal city Recife, has announced that the Vatican was excommunicating the mother of the local girl -- along with the doctors who performed the procedure. By the way, the accused stepfather, the rapist, is not being excommunicated. The archbishop said that the rapist would not be thrown out of the Church, because although he had allegedly committed "a heinous crime," the Church took the view that "the abortion, the elimination of an innocent life, was more serious," reports the Belfast (UK) Telegraph.

Aquila ka hekate: Re: war on drugs, since the 80's, everything that needed attention became a WAR ON ... and whatever the war was on subsequently slid into chaos. Education, obesity, pollution, drugs, guns ... and all the rest. The US seems to love its wars, but at the same time seems astoundingly bad at conducting ANY war, never mind the old-fashioned ones, like Iraq, Afganistan, Korea, Vietnam, the Phillipines, South America (pick any country).

It's a war-like attitude from a war-like people who know no other way to resolve any issue. Perpetual war, anyone recall how it is one of the basic tenets of 1984? It's EERY how much we have come to resemble a book written decades ago. And a most unflattering book, at that. Of course, being africa we carry a large degree of Animal Farm too.

UN admits it is losing the war on drugs

The United Nations says it is losing its global war on drugs.

Anti-drug policies have in fact indirectly created "a criminal market of macro-economic size", said a UN report presented at a global drug conference in Vienna on Wednesday.

Citing the report, Antonio Maria Costa, the head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, said the estimated value of the illicit global drug trade had ballooned to more than $300bn a year.

Owen, who was one of the first Canadian politicians to advocate a rethink of traditional anti-drug policies, said "the ideology saying that this is a criminal issue has absolutely not worked anywhere for decades and decades".

Saying that policy-makers must "accept that the user is sick and the dealer is evil", he called on them to look at scientific and medical evidence.

"Dozens and dozens of reports written all around the world from a scientific and medical point of view ... support drug policy reform, not prohibition," he said.
