There's some suggestion, you know, that Bonfire Night has Pagan origins.
Yes, we did used to sacrifice people - the Druids in particular were known to burn prisoners of war, and especially, I feel sure, on Samhain which, by the astronomical clock, falls anywhere from 4th-8th November, in their hemisphere.
